Maison Ludivine Lachance

The Maison Ludivine Lachance NPO is the fruit of 10 years of effort and collaborative work between members of the deaf community, various neighborhood community organizations and the Comité Logement du Plateau Mont-Royal. The project aims to breathe new life into the emblematic former Institut des Sourdes-Muettes, transforming it into a space for living, services and memory for Montreal’s deaf community.

In December, the Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI) launched a call for projects to develop the site of the former Institut des Sourdes-Muettes. However, the integration of the MLL project is not guaranteed.

With what is becoming of new developments and the ease with which property developers can bypass the provision of social housing, it is more than crucial that the former Institution des Sourdes becomes the site of an innovative social housing project adapted to members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Institution des Sourdes-muettes committee

The Institution des Sourdes-Muettes Committee is a working committee overseen by the CLPMR. The committee is open to individuals, members of the Deaf community, community organizations and other actors interested in the social development of the institution.  

Our Goals 

That the Institution des Sourdes-Muettes: 

Retain a social, public and community purpose; 

Develop services and activities for and by the Deaf community; 

Include space dedicated to social housing;  

Preserve existing offices for organizations that are already on the site; 

Support the development of organizations and services that cater to the needs of seniors, families, and low-income residents.
